LPLM, as local coordinators for a proposed Keepit Solar Project, invite you to participate in the Namoi Solar Survey to gauge community interest in a community solar project. We value your input.
Following the success of the EcoSmart Building Expo in Gunnedah in May this year, Gunnedah and the wider Namoi community, is moving ever closer towards establishing a solar community through the development of a large-scale solar project.
Small towns, suburbs and groups of residents all over Australia are taking the initiative to purchase renewable energy in bulk to reduce the cost and make it a more viable option for the everyday Australian. Gunnedah is not to be left behind in this movement.
The project, entitled ‘Keepit Solar’ will be similar in principle and structure to the successful New England ‘Farming the Sun’ initiative run by the New England Sustainability Strategy (NESS).
Keepit Solar will be a large-scale solar project for residents and businesses across the whole of the Namoi region. Liverpool Plains Land Management (LPLM) is working closely with Adam Blakester, NESS coordinator to adapt the NESS project to suit local needs.
The ‘Farming the Sun’ scheme has made solar power and hot water systems 20-50% more affordable, directly generated 230+ new solar systems and solar farms in just 18 months, created some $3.4m in 'green economy' jobs, business and training and strengthened community partnerships and understanding of renewable energy.
As the local Coordinators of the proposed Keepit Solar Project, LPLM are currently working closely with NESS to survey community interest in the project, through the Namoi Solar Survey. The survey is designed to gauge interest from residents, businesses, tradespeople, farmers and other community partners in taking up, supplying or installing, solar power, water and heating technologies.
