Community Field Days are held to help farmers understand the environmental issues impacting on the catchment: salinity, groundcover and pasture management, soil health, riparian zone management, and biodiversity.
Community Field Days are conducted as an important part of several projects, including the Land Management Tenders, to deliver specific education programs to local farmers.
For example, the NSW Department of Agriculture recently funded a better soil health management education program. Themes included:
- Zero till cropping
- Development of deep-rooted perennials
- Salinity
Community Field Days are promoted to local audiences through leaflets, and columns and advertisements in local newspapers.
